The Stewards received a written report from the FIA Technical Delegate that at the weight
check before Service B the car No. 3 Entrant BP FORD WORLD RALLY TEAM Crew
Toni Gardemeister / Jakke Honkanen with crew weighed 1390 kg and without the crew
weighed as follows (5 times):
- 1226 kg (4 kg under weight)
- 1226 kg (4 kg under weight)
- 1225 kg (5 kg under weight)
- 1226 kg (4 kg under weight)
- 1225 kg (5 kg under weight)
The Stewards then summoned the Entrant BP FORD WORLD RALLY TEAM.
The Entrant was represented by Mr. Malcolm Wilson, Team Principal, Mr. John Millington,
the Team Manager, accompanied by two engineers.
The representative stated that the only defence they could offer was that the car was missing a
part due to a collision.
This part, which was part of the underbody protection, was weighed separately by the FIA
Technical Delegate and found to be 2 kg in weight. It is pertinent, however, to note that Art.
7.1 of the 2005 FIA WRC Regulations state:
7.1 Weighing the cars
The weight of the cars may be measured at any time during the event in accordance with
articles 254 – 5 and 255 – 4 of Appendix J.
The relevant portion of Art. 255.4.3 of Appendix J states:
“at no time during the event may a car weigh less than the minimum weight stated in this
article”.
This weight for the Ford Focus WRC is 1230 kg.
The FIA Technical Delegate confirmed the accuracy of the weighing equipment.
